The print inspection INTRO DocControl is a modular designed image processing system for inspecting printed products.
Beside an image comparison for detecting deviations of the live image compared to a pre-trained golden reference, it can decode various properties like barcodes, data matrix codes and OCR fonts and match the results to given data. This ensures a complete and controlled production. Misprints resulting by ink jet printers (streaker, missing dot) will be detected automatically and can cause the activation of an alarm, up to a machine stop.
The modular design of software and hardware enables the adaption of the system to the specific application. Product widths of 330 up to 980 mm and a machine speed of over 300 m/min are supported.

Any image region can be selected for an image comparison.
A "golden" image, which is a perfect sample, has to be teached for the image comparison. During the surveillance, the live image regions are compared to the ones of the golden.
Deviations will cause an alarm.

During the printing of variable data, it may happen that the print image is shifting.
For this, the ideal position can be taught at the print job set-up.
During the surveillance, the relative shift of the print image is determined.
Deviations will cause an alarm.

Often labels, holograms, member cards or the like are applied to the print product in the finishing.
Here, misplacements up to missing objects may occur. At print job set-up, the ideal position can be taught.
Deviations during the surveillance will cause an alarm.

By using ink jet printers, misprints frequently occur resulting in missing lines (missing dot) or permanently printed lines (streaker).
These are automatically detected and cause an alarm.

The decoding of barcodes and datacodes supports all common used codes.
Beside of the encoded data, also the print quality according to ISO / IEC 15416 is determined.
If the code cannot be read or if the print quality drops under a given limit, an alarm is raised.

With OCR decoding, many font types can be recognized without preparation.
For special fonts or even symbols, user-defined fonts can be teached by the user.

Decoded properties can be matched to given data, up to a completeness check.
For this, there are interfaces for all common data file formats. A connection to SQL databases is supported as well.
A property comparison of front and back side of a document prevents an unintended mismatch.
In case of data deviation or detected misprints, error reports can be generated to be used for reprints for example.
